Chicago / Des Plaines PK Corneal Transplant Surgery
Since this procedure is a traditional full thickness corneal transplant a circular portion of the damaged cornea is removed from the center, cutting through all three layers of the cornea. A matching circular area of tissue is taken from a healthy donor cornea and stitched into place. This procedure requires sutures that could create an irregular curvature of the cornea and recovery takes about one year.In many cases a contact lens must be worn for the best vision.
