AcrySof IQ Monofocal IOLs in Chicago / Des Plaines, Illinois
All of the doctors at the Midwest Center for Sight are experts at implanting the AcrySof IQ Monofocal intraocular lens (IOL), which is designed to improve image quality after the removal of a cataract. A monofocal IOL is intended to provide clear distance vision, but most Chicago IQ monofocal IOLs patients will likely need corrective lenses for some tasks, such as reading, sewing or computer work.
Most eyes contain slight imperfections that are referred to as aberrations. A common aberration for cataract patients is called a spherical aberration. This causes a gradual reduction in image quality and visual function. The AcrySof IQ Monofocal lens is designed to reduce spherical aberration, increase contrast sensitivity and improve functional vision. The benefits of the design were recognized by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) when they granted the AcrySof IQ "New Technology IOL" status.
Safe and effective
IOLs are implanted during cataract surgery, which is one of the safest and most effective procedures performed today.
Is cataract surgery painful?
Cataract surgery is generally a simple outpatient procedure that results in very little discomfort. During the procedure, your Chicago / Des Plaines cataracts surgeon will make a tiny incision in the eye, remove your eye's clouded natural lens, and replace it with the AcrySof IQ Monofocal lens. The results are permanent, and the actual surgery takes only minutes. Most of our IQ Monofocal IOLs patients are back to their normal activities the very next day. We typically perform the procedure on one eye at a time with an appointment for your second eye about a month later.
AcrySof IOLs are:
- The most widely used with more than 30 million implanted worldwide
